Santa Monica Studio surprises fans with a massive free update featuring new story content, armor sets, and special bosses.
Santa Monica Studio stunned the gaming community with a completely unannounced free content update for God of War: Ragnarök titled 'Valhalla.' The update delivers over 20 hours of new playable content — more than many paid DLC offerings — as a surprise gift to the game's dedicated fanbase.
Valhalla's story follows Kratos as he confronts the trials of the afterlife, structured as a Roguelite progression system. Players unlock new abilities, armor sets, and runes across runs, with a series of intricately designed boss encounters that critics are calling some of the best in the entire God of War franchise.
The studio explained that rather than sell this content as paid DLC, they wanted to give back to fans who have supported Ragnarök since launch. The update is available for free to all players on both PS4 and PS5, ensuring the entire existing playerbase can experience it regardless of which console they own.
