A well-established insider source within Nintendo's development network has confirmed to GameHub that Super Mario Odyssey 2 is in advanced development, designed exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2 to take full advantage of the new hardware's significantly greater processing capabilities.
The sequel will reportedly bring back Cappy alongside new mechanics that leverage the Switch 2 Joy-Con's improved motion controls. Sources describe a world map that is three times the size of the original Odyssey, blending 3D platforming with a more open, exploratory structure rather than the segmented kingdoms of the first game.
Nintendo has not made any official announcement, and the company declined to comment when approached.
